Safety Day
Brantley Lake State Park will host a Safety Day on Saturday, September 22nd from 9 – 2 p.m. in the day use area. Numerous organizations including Artesia Fire, New Mexico Game and Fish, Desert Willow Wildlife Rehab, Carlsbad Soil and Water Conservation District, Bureau of Land Management Fire, Guadalupe National Park Service Ridge Trail, Living Desert State Park, Occidental Petroleum, and others will have booths centered around various safety topics. Safety topics include: Trail safety, water safety, snake awareness, public safety around single well batteries, child seats, and many more! Regular park fees apply to enter the park for the event. March for Parks on Public Lands Day
Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park will host the annual March for Parks event on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 29th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the Zoo doors opening at 9 a.m. March for Parks has been a community event in Carlsbad, NM since 1995 and helps raise funding for community park projects and school field trips. To participate in this fun event, pick up a pledge sheet at the Living Desert State Park, collect money from sponsors, and register at one of the two registration sites. There will be a registration table at the Lake Carlsbad Beach Park for those participants who wish to ride bikes, longboards, rollerblade, skateboard, etc. from the beach to the zoo. Registration and turning in money at the beach is between 8-8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept 29th. Registration for the Marchers will take place between 9-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29th at the base of the Ocotillo Trail behind NMSU-Carlsbad.
