Oliver Lee
Venus: Our Sister World
Venus glows brilliantly in the western sky after sunset and was named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Oliver Lee Memorial State Park and the Amateur Astronomers Group will host an event celebrating our nearest planetary neighbor. Venus is sometimes called Earth's "sister planet" because of its similar size, mass, composition and proximity to the Sun. However, Venus, with its thick carbon dioxide atmosphere, serves as a warning to humans on Earth. Come see the 3-day old waxing Moon through telescopes.
