1st Day Hike ! Start Good -End Good
Start the new year off in a different, fun and healthy way. Join us for a ranger led hike of the beautiful Buffalo Soldier, Upper and Lower Mogollon Trails and experience both the classic chihuahuan desert uplands and the riverine, riparian environments along the Rio Grande. See and feel the rare and unique geothermal springs and the aquatic plants and animals that are sustained by these waters - in the dead of winter!

Sugarite Canyon
First Day Hike
Start the new year of 2018 with a mile-long walk through the historic coal camp at Sugarite Canyon State Park. We will walk at your pace, and we'll finish in time for you to drive up the road and watch the Polar Bear Plunge at 1 p.m. at Lake Maloya! Participants should wear good hiking shoes and dress for the weather.

Sugarite Canyon
Polar Bear Plunge
What better way to bring in 2018 than to jump into the icy waters of Lake Maloya? Experience the amazing post-jump tingle while dunking doughnuts into your coffee! Registration to jump is $20 and proceeds go to the Friends of Sugarite to support park events.

Take a moderate 2.5 mile round-trip hiking tour and discover the geology and geography of the area, including geothermal springs! Meet at Leasburg Dam State Park Visitor Center. Bring at least 2qts. of water per person,and good hiking shoes. Water shoes if you wish to experience the hot springs.
