Heron Lake State Park


Group shelter use is currently not available. 2/24/2021 - ongoing
Heron Lake State Park developed campgrounds are open for RESERVATION ONLY camping. Campgrounds requiring a reservation are: Willow, Blanco, Brushy Point, Island View, Salmon Run, Ridge Rock, Ponderosa, La Laja and Piedra Vista. Remote camping is available without a reservation at Little Oso, Rincon, and Shore line between Sierra Vista and La Laja boat ramps. Remote camping fee is $8.00 per night payable at any pay station or the park office 7/26/2021 - ongoing


Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles. 7/27/2021 - ongoing
The stairway to the suspension bridge located at Rio Chama Trailhead is closed. Access to the Rio Chama can be gained using the BOR access road. 8/22/2021 - ongoing
Willow, Sierra Vista, La Laja and the Primitive boat ramps are closed due to low water levels. Small paddle-craft can be launched from the shoreline. 9/17/2021 - ongoing
The following campgrounds are closed for the season: Island View Campground, Rincon Primitive Camping Area, Little Oso Primitive Campground. 9/17/2021 - 5/13/2022


Stage I Fire Restrictions - Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited except in State Park developed camp and picnic grounds where grills and stoves are provided by the State Park 6/13/2021 - ongoing
Fireworks are prohibited in Heron Lake State Park. 7/27/2021 - ongoing
