State Park Restrictions


Many of the State Parks are currently under Fire Restrictions. Please check the Park status before you go!


Bluewater Lake (505) 876-2391
Fireworks are always prohibited at Bluewater Lake State Park 4/30/2018 - ongoing
Wood gathering for camp fires is prohibited within state park boundaries. 4/30/2018 - ongoing

Bottomless Lake (575) 624-6058
Campfires and charcoal/wood are prohibited. An exception is granted where cooking, heating and lighting devices use kerosene, white gas or propane as a fuel in an improved camping area that is cleared of flammable vegetation for at least 30 feet or has a water source. 5/25/2019 - 12/31/2019
Bottomless Lakes State Park will implement fire restrictions on open fires, charcoal/wood burning and smoking on May 25, 2019. Vegetation in the area has dried out significantly, and due to the high winds, low humidity, and the lack of precipitation, making the restrictions necessary for the safety of our visitors. 5/25/2019 - ongoing

Brantley Lake (575) 457-2384
Brantley Lake State Park will implement fire restrictions on open fires, charcoal/wood burning and smoking on April 22, 2019. Vegetation in the area has dried out significantly, and due to the high winds, low humidity, and the lack of precipitation, making the restrictions necessary for the safety of our visitors. 4/22/2019 - 12/31/2019

Stage I Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited except in State Park developed camp and picnic grounds where grills and stoves are provided by the State Park. The use of petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices is allowed, provided such devices meet the fire underwriter's specifications for safety. 8/23/2018 - ongoing

Hyde Memorial 505-983-7175
Stage I Fire Restrictions: Campfires, charcoal, coal, or wood stoves are prohibited except in developed areas where fire rings and grills are provided. The use of petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices is allowed, provided such devices have a shut-off switch. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material. 7/17/2018 - ongoing

No fire grills or fire rings are available to the public at Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. Picnic tables and shelters are available for guests. 3/26/2018 - 12/31/2020

Morphy Lake (575) 387-2328
Morphy Lake State Park remains closed due to construction on the DAM and within the park campground. The park will remain closed until work is complete and there is currently no set date to reopen the park. 4/30/2019 - ongoing

Fireworks are always prohibited at Navajo Lake State Park. No Exceptions. 4/12/2019 - ongoing
The use of drones and model aircraft are prohibited at Navajo Lake State Park. 4/12/2019 - ongoing
The use of ATV/OHV's in the park is prohibited. All vehicle traffic must remain on established roadways. 5/14/2019 - ongoing

Please help us protect wildlife and habitat. Pets are welcome in the parking lot but use the bike trail to access the trails near the river. Do not walk pets through the park. 5/28/2019 - 11/28/2019

The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site, or while standing in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material. 8/7/2018 - ongoing

Sumner Lake (575) 355-2541
Sumner Lake State Park will implement fire restrictions on open fires, charcoal/wood burning and smoking on Feb. 22, 2019. Vegetation in the area has dried out significantly, and due to the high winds, low humidity, and the lack of precipitation, making the restrictions necessary for the safety of our visitors. 2/21/2019 - 12/31/2019
